Hyderabad: Bomb threat to RGIA, turns out to be hoax

Hyderabad: A mail from an anonymous person informing of a bomb planted in the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, has sent the security apparatus and the airport machinery into a tizzy on Monday afternoon.

Even as agencies swung into action and started scanning the entire airport and the premises, another mail was received by the airport authorities informing that the mail was sent by a ‘mentally challenged person’ and also sought apologies for misleading and creating panic.

While the mail was turned out to be a hoax after thorough searches by multiple teams of CISF guarding the airport, security personnel and also the local police, a case has been registered at RGI airport police station for further investigation.

Airport officials confirmed that the mail claimed that a bomb was planted in the airport and it can go off any time. Immediately a Threat Assessment meeting was held at the airport, with all the stakeholders and a search operation began immediately.

After searching for over an hour, search parties confirmed no suspicious material in the airport, giving a relief to the security personnel and also the hundreds of passengers.

ACP Shamshabad P Ramchander Rao said after it was confirmed that there was no suspicious material in the airport, a case was registered and investigation is on to trace the persons behind the mail. Meanwhile, airport sources confirmed that the hoax call did not affect any operations at the airport.
