New BBMP chief bats for clean, green Bengaluru
BENGALURU: Additional chief secretary of Urban Development Department Mr Anil Kumar B H officially took charge as the BBMP commissioner by receiving the baton from his predecessor Mr Manjunath Prasad.
Mr Anil Kumar said his areas of focus will be on keeping the city clean, rejuvenation of lakes, improving the infrastructure of the city, easing out traffic and making the administration citizen friendly. He said the city needs a vision document for planned growth.
Need good coordination
"To achieve the above we need better coordination among various civic agencies. There is a coordination committee under chief secretary Mr TM Vijay Bhaskar and we will work towards improving the coordination among all civic agencies and stakeholders" Mr Anil Kumar said.
Vision 2050
“We have experts on Solid Waste Management, water and environment. We will bring them together and draft a Vision 2050 document, chart and set up an action plan to achieve the vision, the new commissioner said and added that citizen participation is necessary.
Ad hoardings to be back?
Giving a hint that the hoardings may come back into the city, Mr Anil said the BBMP should shore up its revenue. "BBMP's Outdoor Signage and public messaging bye-law is deemed to be approved by the government. But the bye -law is different from the rules which are more comprehensive" Mr Anil said.
However he maintained that the HC order and the Advertisement policy 2006 will be taken into consideration before coming to a decision.
Indira canteens
Corporators have discussed about running Indira Canteens at their monthly council meet. Urban development department had urged the finance department to release funds to run the canteen. "To run the canteens we need at least 50 percent funding. It is a state government project and they have to release funds. Till then the canteens will be run on BBMP funds," he said.
