Hyderabad: GHMC un-ready for Lord Ganesha

The corporation has not yet invited tenders for civic arrangement needed to be made for either of the two.

Hyderabad: While netas have been appealing to citizens to maintain the ‘Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb’, euphemism for a culture of communal harmony and brotherhood between Hindus and Muslims during a time period when the obser-ving of Muharram will coincide with Ganesha festivities, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been caught unprepared for either of the two religious events. The corporation has not yet invited tenders for civic arrangement needed to be made for either of the two.

The civic body has sanctioned Rs 9 crore for the construction of baby ponds, maintenance of lakes, road repairs along the procession routes, special lighting arrangements, among others.

However, with only two days remaining for the Ganesha festivities to begin, the corporation was yet to finalise tenders for 80 out of the total 176 works sanctioned.

Surprisingly, the corporation has also not even invited tenders for repairs and relaying of the 18-kilometres main procession route from Balapur to Tank Bund, where roads have been severely damaged. It would be humanly impossible to repairs the roads and take up gravel works within stipulated time prior to the immersion day. The corporation itself has identified over 10,000 potholes in major procession routes.
