Retired headmaster roams city with bleedng victims.

Hyderabad: An elderly farmer couple, K. Siddhappa, 70, and K. Rajamani, 62, were badly injured when a speeding car hit them, throwing them off the Medak highway at 3 pm. Rajamani fractured her hip, while Siddhappa broke his right ribs.

The couple who live in Dullapally under Petbasheerabad police limits, had gone to Medak to meet their relatives, and the accident took place on their return to the city, while crossing Dullapally chowrastra.

A retired headmaster, K. Kishan Rao, was behind the wheels of the speeding Maruti Swift car, but stopped following the accident. After a commotion at the scene and fearing the mob would attack him and the car, Mr Rao agreed to bear the medical expenses of the farmer couple. He shifted the bleeding husband and wife into his car and assured the locals that he would take them to hospital. However, he drove the couple around the city for about two hours, police said. Rajamani begged Mr Rao to stop the vehicle, but he did not.

Speaking to this newspaper, Rajamani, who is currently in NIMS Hospital, said, “I tried to open the car door to escape, but the head master noticed it and pushed me out of the car. After travelling for about 100 metres he dropped Siddhappa from the car and fled from the scene.”

The retired head master was booked on the charge of negligent driving.

It was a stranger who came to their rescue. K. Anand, the younger son of the couple said, “I got a call from a person named Srikanth and I immediately rushed to the spot. At the same time, 108 ambulance came after being called by Srikanth. Doctors told us that they have to rest for at least a year.”

Mahesh, sub-inspector of police, Pet Basheerbad, said, “We have booked a case against the car driver and further investigation is underway.” The police registered the case under section 337 IPC negligent driving and seized the car. The family demanded that Mr Roa be booked on a charge of attempted murder.
