Assess losses honestly: Moideen
Thrissur: In the flood review meeting held at Thrissur Collectorate, tourism minister A.C. Moideen asked officials to inspect and assess the damages caused in the historic floods that hit the state, in an honest and reasonable manner.
“The revenue officials alone can’t assess all the damages. The councilors of the local bodies need to assist the officials in assessing the amount of damage and losses incurred. Losses need to be calculated in an efficient and reasonable manner keeping aside political affiliation of councilors of the civic bodies,” Mr Moideen said.
Education minister C. Raveendranath and agriculture minister V.S. Sunil Kumar were also present.
Mr Kumar urged the officials of the agriculture department to mitigate the technicalities and make all possible arrangements for the paddy farmers to sow seeds in November by preparing their fields for the upcoming farming season after monsoon.
Assistance sought from Civil Engineering students
Thrissur Collector T.V. Anupama has sought help from students and teachers of civil engineering departments in B.Tech colleges and Polytechnics for assessing damages to houses and for reinforcing and rebuilding the affected houses in the district during the recent floods.
She said that all those institutions which were willing to be part of the project need to contact Costford or National Service Scheme (NSS) units in the district who are into rehabilitation work. Interested civil engineering and students and teachers could also contact the district control room to be a part of the project.
