AP rice traders bring relief materials

District collector Muhammad Y Safirulla received the traders' team who are based at Kakinada.

Kochi: A group of 10 rice traders from Andhra Pradesh has reached Kochi on Tuesday with relief materials worth Rs 55 lakhs which include 144 metric tonnes of rice, 10,000 bed sheets and clothes worth Rs 2.5 lakhs. District collector Muhammad Y Safirulla received the traders’ team who are based at Kakinada.

The team, led by Vinod Agarwal, plans to distribute bed sheets and clothes in the tribal areas of Idukki and Wayanad. It will also participate in relief and cleaning works for three days, as per the direction of district administration.

The traders informed the collector that they were ready to deploy more members from Andhra Pradesh for voluntary service in flood hit areas, if required.

The district administration’s centralised collection centre at Thrikkakara community hall, functioning under the direct supervision of district collector, has been getting truck loads of relief materials every day. Hundreds of people from all walks of life including IT professionals, teachers, students, Kudumbashree Mission workers are approaching the collection centre offering voluntary service.
