Accused asked to donate to Kerala Relief

The accused and their counsels were not present for the hearing on May 25 when two prosecution witnesses were cross-examined.

Chandigarh: In a humanitarian move by a judge, a Panchkula special CBI judge has directed the accused in a corruption case to pay Rs 15,000 each to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. On February 27, former superintendents of police Anil Kumar and Ajay Singh and former police inspector Ravinder Dahiya of the central excise and audit departments were arrested in Murthal, Sonipat, for bribery amounting to Rs 3 lakh to cut the duty fee of a company that was under their under scrutiny .

The three accused, who were not present for the hearing, were ordered by the special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh to deposit Rs 15,000 each in the relief fund and asked that the receipts of the transaction be placed before the court at the next hearing on October 1.
