Telangana to make it tough to get local' status

The Presidential Order prescribed reservations in zonal, multi-zonal and district cadres.

Hyderabad: The recruitment drives are centred around ensuring jobs for locals, in the wake of the state government deciding to seek an amendment to the Presidential Order on job quotas.

Four years of study or seven years of stay in the state is being considered to give ‘local status’ for government jobs.

A committee of senior officials set up to devise state and district cadre system and steps to be taken to determine local status to ensure jobs suggested following the Karnataka and Haryana models, which mandate a 15-year stay in the state to accord local status.

The new local status formula proposal is pending with the CM. The Presidential Order prescribed reservations in zonal, multi-zonal and district cadres. The quota ratio is 70:30 between locals and non-locals in zonal posts, 60:40 for multi-zonal and 80:20 in district cadre posts.

The TS government feels that the zonal system had resulted in a majority of the jobs being secured by Seemandhra aspirants.
