Mysuru: Dasara bonanza! E-ticket facility for tourists

This year, tourists visiting Mysuru will be able to purchase tickets for major destinations through a single online window.

Mysuru: The days of waiting in a long queue for a ticket to your favourite tourist destination during Dasara are over. This year, tourists visiting Mysuru will be able to purchase tickets for major destinations through a single online window and only need to show the bar coded e-tickets to get entry to each destination.

“The proposed facility is likely to be launched for the convenience of tourists before Dasara,” Mysuru deputy commissioner Mr D Randeep said. To begin with, tourists would be able to book tickets to Mysuru Palace, Karanji lake, Mysuru Zoo, KRS Dam and Chamundi Hills. The district administration has identified, Bookmyshow as the facilitator for the programme. One can book tickets either on the website or a mobile app through a window ‘NammaMysuru,’ according to tourism department deputy director Mr Janardhan.

Mr C.A. Jayakumar of Mysuru Tourism Forum, said, “Atleast 60 percent of tourists would prefer to book tickets online. Tourism passport, a multi destination single ticket system launched for a month during Dasara 2014, had elicited a good response. This saves time and is also convenient as it helps tourists plan their tour well in advance and could boost tourism by at least 20 percent. It will give an accurate figure of the number of tourist arrivals, which will enable food vendors to be prepared in advance to handle the crowd. It would also be good from the security point of view,” he said.

Farmers’ Dasara from September 22
With the farming community grappling with drought and a spree of suicides, ‘Farmers Dasara’ from September 22 to 24 at Jeevarayana Kere grounds, will see an interaction with progressive farmers to inspire their counterparts take up organic farming, water management and millet cultivation. Buses will be arranged from all taluks of Mysuru and over 1,000 farmers are expected to participate in the event. An exhibition with over 30 stalls will showcase latest farm technologies.

A one-day national seminar on the theme of this year’s Dasara, ‘Constitution, democracy and equality’ would be held during the festival with former Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde and Justice M.N. Venkatachalaiah as speakers. Students will present a skit depicting the Constitution drafting committee.

Like every year, this time too, most government stalls at the Dasara exhibition will not be ready on the inaugural day. Mysuru DC Mr D Randeep has fixed a deadline of September 19 for completion of the stalls. As many as 44 government stalls of different departments, boards and corporations are likely to come up.
