Hyderabad HC grants stay on appointment of state child rights commission chairman

The petitioner had alleged that the government was trying to appoint TRS secretary and advocate Gudimalla Ravi Kumar as chairperson.

Telangana: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday granted interim stay on all further proceedings for the appointment of the chairperson of the Telangana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Justice Challa Kodandaram granted the stay while hearing a petition by P.P. Achyuta Rao, honorary chairman of Balala Hakkula Sangham.

The petitioner had alleged that the government was trying to appoint TRS secretary and advocate Gudimalla Ravi Kumar as chairperson.

C. Damodar Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, said the commission was a statutory body and quasi-judicial authority. The government was trying to appoint Kumar, an active political leader who did not have the requisite eligibility, to the post.

He told the court that the petitioner had the required qualifications but the authorities were ignoring him. The judge directed the government and the authorities concerned to file their counter affidavits within a week.
