GHMC fits LEDs on streetlights
Hyderabad: Around one lakh streetlights out of the 4.55 lakhs in Greater Hyderabad have been fitted with LED lights. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation took up the job to replace bulbs on one lakh streetlights 45 days ago.
The Municipal Administration and Urban Development department have set a target to replace bulbs on 4.55 lakh streetlights with LEDs by year-end.
The GHMC took up the LED project in the city in coordination with Energy Efficiency Services Limited, an organisation affiliated with the Government of India.
Through the one lakh new LEDs streetlights the GHMC is saving 2.32 MU power every day and cost has come down by Rs 14.72 crore.
With each unit of power costing around Rs 7 the GHMC will be saving Rs 1.65 crore if it replaces all the 4.55 lakh LED streetlights. The LED lights are of 18, 35, 17, 110, 190 Watt capacity. The GHMC is replacing 8,000 LED lights every day.
