Rains damage newly laid roads in Vijayawada

A VMC official said that all the roads were partially laid and another layer would be laid to strengthen them.

Vijayawada: The rough patches developed on the newly laid roads of Vijayawada due to rains exposes the poor quality of works. The government has spent lavishly on developing roads in the city for Krishna Pushkaralu. Many doubts are being raised now as the roads are getting damaged by just a moderate rain.

The government already faced lot of criticism for doing the works in a hasty manner. Now all the criticism seems to be coming true as many roads which are not even two weeks old are developing patches. The poor quality in the works is quite evident at Polytechnic College Road near Mogalrajapuram. The top layer got washed away and the pebbles surfaced on top.

Also at Durga temple road, the walk way created for pedestrians slid down as the supporting bund was constructed with sand. As all the roads were inundated on Sunday night because of the rain, the walkway got almost washed away. Similar rough patches were seen at Labbipet, MG Road, Suryaraopet and other areas.

Though the government boasted that the infrastructure that is being created for Krishna Pushkaralu is part of the permanent development works, it is now turning out to bea time-being arrangement. When contacted, a senior official in engineering department of Municipal Corporation told on the condition of anonymity that many roads in the city were partially developed.
