3 women washed away in stream at Chinakondrupadu

The NDRF resumed search operation on Sunday and found the bodies of Koteswaramma, Chandrika and Samrajyam.

Amaravati: Three women drowned in a stream and a boy was rescued following rains. Flow of water in the local stream of Chinakondrupadu in the Prattipadu Mandal of Guntur district increased with the rain. Three women and a boy from Nadimpalem were returning from work in a poultry farm on Saturday night. The local stream Konda Vagu was swollen. The women, G. Koteswaramma 50, K. Chandrika 13, Ch. Samrajyam 40 and the boy, P. Srinath tried to cross the stream.

A passerby warned them not to venture into the water and to go through a bridge about 1 km away. But the women were adamant and catching each other’s hands they tried to cross the stream. The flow of water suddenly increased and they lost their grip following which they were swept away in the flowing waters. Luckily Srinath caught a tree and came out from the stream. He ran to the village and informed about the incident. The villagers informed the police who pressed NDRF into action. The search operation did not yield results.

The NDRF resumed search operation on Sunday and found the bodies of Koteswaramma, Chandrika and Samrajyam. The three were residents of one street of Chinakondrupadu.

Lucky boy, Srinath said that he was standing last and lost connection with the women and caught the nearby tree. He said that first he was afraid to leave the tree due to water flow but after sometime he came out when the level of water subsided and informed the villagers.

The Prattipadu police shifted bodies to GGH at Guntur for autopsy and registered a case.
