Thrissur: MLA’s protest site ‘cleansed’

Meanwhile, YC leaders here said that there was no need for giving a casteist angle to their protest.

Thrissur: Nattika legislator Geetha Gopi has filed a complaint with the Cherpu Police demanding action against the Youth Congress leaders who allegedly insulted her by sprinkling water mixed with cow dung at the courtyard of PWD office in Cherpu where the MLA had conducted a sit-in protest.

Speaking to this newspaper, the MLA said that she would be meeting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday and demand registering cases against the YC men by invoking all sections and Acts for insulting a woman MLA belonging to a Scheduled Caste.

“The government can slap cases by considering all these aspects. I will reveal my future course of action after meeting the Chief Minister,” she said.

‘SC YC leader led protest’
Meanwhile, YC leaders here said that there was no need for giving a casteist angle to their protest.

“The protest was against the MLA who did not act in time to complete the repair works of the Cherpu-Thriprayar state highway after the laying of water pipelines. YC men alleged that the sit-in protest of the MLA was a farce and resorted to this mode of protest,” DCC general secretary and former YC state general secretary John Daniel said.

“What if the same protest was done against a Christian or a Muslim MLA? In fact, a panchayat president belonging to Scheduled Caste led the protest against the MLA. There can be discussion on this mode of protest, but it cannot be termed as casteist.

KSU in 2016 had conducted a similar protest a day after Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Thrissur at the stage set up for the public meeting of Modi,” he noted.
