Thiruvananthapuram: The police is likely to investigate the role of the father of Rahul and Akhil in the murder of Rakhi, 30, whose body was found buried in a vacant plot of land at Amboori, Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday last. The police recovered the mortal remains of Rakhi after a month-long search.

The two brothers  were arrested on Saturday. The first accused, Akhil S. Nair, Rakhi's former partner and army man, was held when he arrived at Thiruvananthapuram airport from Delhi in the evening. Second -accused Rahul was arrested in the morning.

He confessed that he and his brother strangled the victim Rakhi to death after taking her from Neyyattinkara bus stand to Amboori in a car.

Akhil's friend and third accused Adarsh was nabbed by the police earlier.

The neighbours told the police that the duo's father Maniyan was also seen along with the brothers while digging a pit for burying the bod y of Rakhi.

Meanwhile, Rajan, father of Rakhi has also asked the police to include the parents of Akhil in the list of the accused.

The police suspect that the relationship between Akhil and Rakhi that went sour led to Rakhi's murder.

Akhil admitted that he had tied the knot with Rakhi at a temple in Ernakulam as demanded by Rakhi and without informing their family. Akhil told the police that their father was not involved in the crime.

The Neyyattinkara first class magistrate's court remanded Rahul, second accused, till August 9.

The police said in the remand report that Akhil and Rahul  tightened the rope around Rahhi's neck. Akhil had informed Rakhi via WhatsApp his plan to marry another girl.

Rakhi had threatened to campaign against him via social media if the marriage took place.

She also threatened to commit suicide in the house of Akhil. Hence the three conspired to murder her. Rakhi was invited to see the new house being constructed by Akhil.

Rahul, who was sitting behind in the car, strangled her first. Later Akhil, who was in the driver's seat came behind and tightened the plastic rope round her neck. Soon after her death was confirmed, they buried the body in the pit dug earlier.

Akhil, who confessed to the crime, told the police that she had insisted on living with him. It was following this that he decided to kill her.
He left for Kashmir soon after the crime. Rahul disposed of her clothes and phone.
