Teach rebels a lesson: HD Deve Gowda tells partymen
Bengaluru: The Janata Dal (Secular) is working out a strategy to defeat the rebel Congress and JD(S) lawmakers who were responsible for the fall of the 14-month-old coalition government, if they contest elections in future.
A meeting of party workers of Yesvanthpur and Mahalakshmi Layout assembly constituencies held here under the chairmanship of party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda resolved to work unitedly to teach a lesson to the rebels for aligning with the BJP and toppling the coalition government.
The party has begun preparations in advance to tentatively select probable candidates who can take on the disqualified legislators, especially Mahalakshmi Layout MLA N. Gopalaiah who quit after raining charges on former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.
The party patriarch invited suggestions from workers.
Workers from Yesvantpur suggested Mr Javaregowda, who lost to rebel MLA S.T. Somashekhar of the Congress twice for the constituency bypoll.
According to them, he was quite a popular leader and the sympathy factor may work in his favour.
Mr Gowda said that it has become a habit for the BJP to poach MLAs from other parties and it was high time they were taught a lesson.
The candidates suggested by the workers would be finalized in consultation with Mr Kumaraswamy, he added.
