Panel to take up fight for Hanan Hamid
Kochi: The Kerala State Women’s Commission will take suo motu charges against persons involved in the cyber bullying of Hanan Hamid, a 19-year-old degree student, engaged in fish vending for livelihood.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the girl on Saturday Women’s Commission chairperson M.C. Josephine said the commission will hold special sittings to conduct the trial of those involved in defaming Hanan.
Josephine also urged the women in the state to mount strong resistance against the culture of cyber attacks. Women are the worst victims of cyber attacks in the state, she said, and added that it is a matter of concern that social media platforms are used for attacking women in the most vicious manner. The social media goons are also debasing the Malayalam language with their vulgar and obscene vocabulary, she added. Ms Josephine also said that the commission would provide all support to Hanan.
“The attack against Hanan, belonging to an economically weak background, is cruel. The attack against Hanan is cyber goondaism. It is sad that a girl such as Hanan was subjected such cruelty,” she said.
The social media should be used for conveying good ideas, she said. It is a matter of concern that cyber attacks have attained a menacing proportion hitting even the normal social life, she added.
