Man takes own life seeking 'Special Category Status' for Andhra Pradesh
Tirupati: A man committed suicide at Madanapalle in Chittoor district on Satu-rday, demanding Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh. A note stating “Special Status is our Right” was found in his pocket.
The deceased was identified as N. Sudhakar, 29, a weaver by profession. He had hanged himself from the ceiling fan with his mother’s sari. Sudhakar’s father N. Ramachandra and mother N. Sanjamma are contract employees at Madanapalle municipality and had left home around 7 am. Sudhakar's sister, who resides in the opposite house, knocked on the door around 8 am and did not get any response from inside. She peeped into the window and found her brother hanging.
Sudhakar's parents were informed and he was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. When the police searched the body, they found a receipt on which he had written: “No one is responsible for my death, Special Category Status is our right.” The statement was written on the backside of the receipt. The receipt showed that he had donated an amount of '5,000 to an orphanage a few days ago.
Madanapalle MLA Mr Desai Thippareddy staged a protest in the town alleging that the state and Central governments were the reason for Sudhakar’s death and called for a town bandh.
Andhra Pradesh Cong-ress Committee Presid-ent Mr N Raghuveera Reddy also visited Sudhakar’s house and expressed his condolences to the family.
“No one should do this kind of thing. Within 10 months, our government will be formed at the centre and will give us SCS. This is the seventh sacrifice in the state for SCS. The state and central governments are responsible for Sudhakar's death,” said Mr. Raghu-veera Reddy.
