Kapra cleaned yet again by activists
Hyderabad: Cleaning of Kapra lake by removing plastics, debris and water hyacinth was restarted on Saturday morning by Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) and Green Sainkpuri. The EFI has been taking up the initiative of cleaning the lake for the last two years and took the help of school and college children to clean up the lake. On Saturday, college students along with Amazon employees and residents of Sainikpuri cleaned the plastic waste thrown in the lake bed. With the state government creating an iron fence around the lake from Eshwarpuri colony till the badminton court, the influx of miscreants has reduced tremendously.
Deepa Shailender who has been coordinating the clean up with EFI and the residents explained, “The water hyacinth has been removed from the Eshwarpuri side of the lake but there is a lot more work which has to be done at the end of the badminton court. With the help of EFI, we would be coordinating the lake clean up initiative regularly, to ensure that the plastic waste is reduced.”
The Green Sainikpuri group came to the event as a part of their activity called Shramadaan to ensure that residents keep the lake clean. The water hyacinth has now been converted into manure over six months' time, with the help of IICT scientists. There are different vermi-composting cement blocks set up in the higher side of the lake where the hyacinth is processed.
