Hanan Hamid's bully in police custody

The cyber cell is tracing the persons who abused Hanan, and more cases will be registered in this regard, the police said.

Kochi: The city police on Saturday took Wayanad native Noorudheen Sheik into custody in connection with the cyber attack on Hanan Hamid, 20, a college student who sells fish for a livelihood.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) K. Laljy said that he was taken for interrogation and that arrest was not yet recorded. “We are collecting evidence and his posts will be verified in detail. We want his version in the case too. So far, he is cooperating with us,” he said.

A case was registered against the accused after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan instructed DGP Loknath Behera to take action against the cyber-bullies who targeted Hanan through the social media.

“People have a tendency to share everything without knowing its authenticity these days. Only facts should be shared through social media.

However, action will be taken against the cyber bullies who targeted Hanan,” Mr. Vijayan told reporters.

The city police on Saturday confirmed that more cases will be registered against those who had abused Hanan through the social media and who have shared Noorudheen’s video.

Noorudheen was the first one who posted a video making comments against Hanan. The police had earlier taken the statement of Hanan and registered a case against Noorudheen based on her complaint.

Hanan was trolled on the social media with the comment that selling fish after college hours to earn a living and managing her own educational expense was a fake story.

The cyber cell is tracing the persons who abused Hanan, and more cases will be registered in this regard, the police said.
