Bengaluru: Management gives in, KIMS staff call off stir

The employees had threatened to intensify the stir if the management failed to take a decision.

Bengaluru: The 13-day protest by the employees of Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha against the management of Kempegowda Institute of Medical Science (KIMS) was called off on Saturday, after the management agreed to the demands and signed relieving orders of all excess employees and released pending dearness allowance (DA) of employees.

Dr Vinod Kumar A.C., president, Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha Employees’[ Association, said, “We are calling off the protest after the management agreed to fulfil the demands and sign relieving orders of all excess employees. ”

The doctors and medical staff of KIMS launched the stir on July 16 after the management failed to take action on the alleged “unfair hiring policy”. The Outpatient Department (OPD) and laboratory at KIMS hospitals were shut down and the protesters had set up temporary OPDs next to the platform where they were protesting. Earlier, the Sangha had written to the management asking them to fulfil the demands by July 14 or July 15. The employees had threatened to intensify the stir if the management failed to take a decision.

When there was no solution, the staff launched a relay hunger strike from July 18.
