Sloganeering disrupts JNU's Kanhaiya Kumar meet

The AISF and AIYF students could not digest the slogan as the slogan was said to be that of the ABVP.

Kurnool: Kanhaiya Kumar, a former president of the JNU, while addressing the open meeting held at Pathikonda, charged the BJP government with failure to mitigate the drought conditions prevailing in the district.

“Instead of ensuring steps to overcome the drought situation, Prime Minister Nare-ndra Modi is making tours to foreign countries. Several untoward incidents are taking place in the country in the name of ‘Gau Rakshak.’ Mr Modi is provoking communal violence among our countrymen,” he said.

After concluding the meeting and as he was leaving on a country tour, a constable in civilian clothes intervened and requested for permission to ask a question to Kanhaiya Kumar. Before Kanhaiya could grant him permission, the constable shouted, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” The AISF and AIYF students at once pounced on the constable and attacked him with sticks and chairs. A battle-like situation took place at the meeting place. With the intervention of the police deployed at the meeting, the students were dispersed and the constable was rushed to the police station.

The AISF and AIYF students could not digest the slogan as the slogan was said to be that of the ABVP. On hearing this, the students attacked the constable, it is said. Later Kanhaiya Kumar was seen off under tight security, for a few kilometers. AIYF national leaders, Althaf Alam Khan, R. Thirumalai, AISF national leaders, Vali Ullah Khadri, Vishajit Kumar, state leaders Lenin Babu, Subba Rao, Viswanath, Sriramulu Goud, G Ranganna and other students participated at the meeting.
