Four held for beef attack on Muslim women in Madhya Pradesh

We tried to convince them that we were carrying buffalo meat and not beef, says one of the women.

Bhopal: Two Muslim women who were assaulted by cow vigilantes at Mandsaur railway station in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday alleged that the Bajrang Dal activists had instigated violence against them.

Meanwhile, Ratlam Government Railway Police on Thursday arrested four people in connection with the attack. The two women, who were arrested on charges of trafficking meat in an illegal manner and later released by the police, alleged that Bajrang Dal members were behind the attack on them.

“We were stopped by some Bajrang Dal activists when we were coming out of the station. They asked us if we were carrying beef. We tried to convince them that we were carrying buffalo meat and not beef and pleaded to examine it by veterinarians. But, they refused to believe us and asked the women accompanying them to beat us,” Salma Mevati (35), one of the two victims, told this newspaper.

After examination, it was later found that it was buffalo meat. The other victim has been identified as Shamim Akhtar Hussein.
