Arvind Kejriwal gets bail in defamation case

Punjab's Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia had filed the case against Kejriwal in May this year for tarnishing his reputation.

Amritsar: A Punjab Court on Friday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal and his party colleague Sanjay Singh in connection with a defamation case.

Both have been granted bail on a personal bond of Rs. 40, 000. The matter would be next heard on October 15.

Punjab's Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia had filed the case against AAP leaders Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh and Ashish Khetan earlier in May this year for tarnishing his reputation.

"Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh appeared before the court today. The court has scheduled the next date of hearing as October 15. Both have been granted bail on bond of Rs. 40, 000," senior lawyer H.S. Phulka told reporters.

Phoolka further said that Khetan would be present before the court on the next hearing.

Majithia had in May alleged that Kejriwal, Singh and Khaitan had tried to malign his family's reputation by levelling false, baseless and malicious allegations.

Majithia said Kejriwal as well as other leaders have 'made it a habit' to target their political opponents by resorting to statements 'filled with lies with the sole motive of hoodwinking the people.'
