YS Jagan Mohan Reddy seeks cost effective plan

Stating that Telangana and AP states were like one, he felt this should be taken to the people in both states.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday stressed on the need for providing water for irrigation in the Telugu states at a lower cost.

Stating that Telangana and AP states were like one, he felt this should be taken to the people in both states. He felt that the step taken by AP and Telangana with regard to resolving issues among themselves in a cordial and friendly atmosphere should become an ideal for others to follow in the country.

While speaking at the joint meeting of chief ministers, Mr Reddy said that during the earlier meetings with the Telangana CM they had decided to work out a strategy to provide water to people in both the states at a lower cost.

He felt that in view of depletion of water availability in Krishna River, there was a dire need for both the states to work out an alternative.

Maintaining that water availability would further deplete in the years to come, he said both state governments had firmly resolved to utilise water from Godavari River to mitigate water problems in Rayalaseema region in AP, Palamuru Nalgonda areas in Telangana.

Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy said “Some opinions were voiced when I participated in the Kaleshwaram Project inauguration. But, I thought river water in both the states should be utilised to solve the irrigation issues in both the states. Instead of somebody else trying to solve the issues between the two states, it is better both the states come forward and solve their own problems.”
