Thiruvananthapuram: Spl team to probe custodial death

The team consisted of officials from Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki will be part of the team.

Thiruvananthapuram: A seven-member team of the crime branch police led by Kottayam SP K. M. Sabu Mathew will probe the Peerumedu custodial death.

Idukki crime branch DySP Johnson Joseph is the chief investigating official under the control of Ernakulam range IG Kailiraj Mahesh Kumar.

As the investigation was against the police, none of the officials was ready to take the reins. Finally, it fell on the Kottayam SP also in charge of Idukki.

The team consisted of officials from Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki will be part of the team.

The IG visited the family of the victim Rajkumar on Friday. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said in the assembly earlier that the culprits will not be allowed to go scot-free and offered stern action. The government had suspended eight officers in the case.

DGP Lokanath Behera had also promised to examine if there were any lapses from the side of officers and if necessary move forward with prosecution procedures.
