Kollam: Commuters suffer as drainage leaks near school compound

There is also a bus stop near the spot where the stinking odour is emanated.

Kollam: The commuters passing by Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School at Thevally road here have to face an ordeal while crossing a stinky pool of drainage water.

The clogged drainage has been leaking for a while after the slab along with the pavement was broken. The authorities have not taken any action to rectify the issue despite complaints from commuters.

There is also a bus stop near the spot where the stinking odour is emanated. People also raised concerns of infectious diseases being spread if they came in contact with the water.

“The plight of footpath is pathetic. Hundreds of people, including school children, walk along the footpath on a daily basis. There is no way but to have an adventurous journey along the centre of the road to avoid contact with the stinking water,” said environmentalist and lawyer V.I. Rahul.

Ironically, even as the administration fails to take steps to ensure public health by rectifying the issue, awareness classes on public hygiene are in a full swing inside that compound wall.
