Kochi: The State Information Commission has brought the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) under purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The matter had come for the consideration of the commission following the High Court directing it to take a decision the matter while disposing a batch of petitions.
The commission has also directed the CIAL to process and dispose all pending appeals under the RTI within 30 days.
The commission rejected the contention that CIAL is not a public sector entity and ruled that it comes under the ambit of the RTI Act. It observed that CIAL was under the purview of RTI in the beginning but it stopped the practice later. On the public sector character of CIAL, the commission pointed out that the Chief Minister and three other ministers of the state cabinet are members on the CIAL board.
