Warangal: Plea to halt principal transfer

Ms Suma Devi has completed her tenure of six years and is all set to leave the school in the upcoming general transfers.

WARANGAL: The students of Zilla Parishad Secondary School, Mogilicherla in Warangal Rural district are opposing the transfer of their headmistress Ennamshetty Suma Devi. The students came all the way from Mogilicherla and met district education officer K. Narayana Reddy at his office in Hanamkonda on Thursday and appealed to him to extend her tenure for another two years. Some students got emotional and pleaded with the DEO to ensure that she stays back. Ms Suma Devi has completed her tenure of six years and is all set to leave the school in the upcoming general transfers.

P. Kushala, a Class VIII student, said apart from teaching, Ms Suma Devi has been a mentor supporting them in every aspect. “Suma madam has always been there for us, helping us with our problems and it created a strong relationship between us. We do not want her to leave,” she said. Village education development committee president M. Narsinga Rao said the school, established in 1950 was in a dilapidated state in 2012.

After Ms Suma Devi joined the school it has grown to be one of the best schools in the entire district. Taking help from the public representatives and several NGOs, the school has been completely transformed in the last six years. “Suma madam was instrumental in increasing the standard of the school. The school has been achieving 100 per cent results in the SSC exams. Every year several students from this school get selected for IIITs. All the children from the village go to this school. In fact, there is not even a single private school in our village,” he said.

A villager Gajji Raju said due to the efforts of the headmistress, the school now has a beautiful building, classroom libraries, a well-equipped science lab, computer lab, digital classrooms, an RO water plant, sanitary napkin vending machine and many more. Mr Narayana Reddy assured the students that he would do his best to see that Ms Suma Devi continues in the school and asked the students not to be disturbed in case she was transferred.
