Koramangala's busiest road caught between BBMP & BESCOM
BENGALURU: While the BBMP has been pumping in crores of rupees for infrastructure projects across the city, there is a glaring lack of coordination between different civic agencies. The condition of Koramangala 80 Feet Road, one of the busiest in the city, is a testimony to this lack of coordination. The BBMP authorities are not aware as to why the road was dug up and left unattended! A major portion of the Koramangala 80 feet road was dug up near BMTC complex about a week back, apparently by the Bescom authorities to fix a technical glitch.
They did not restore the dug up portion and as a result a major portion of the road has been rendered unusable. This is now causing a traffic bottle neck. It is a Herculean task for motorists who want to take a ‘U’ turn, said Rajendran K, a private company employee. The road has been dug up right at the entrance of the BMTC commercial complex (BMTC depot) and it causes a major jam when the buses enter or exit from the depot. The complex also houses Income Tax department, which sees a steady flow of people, mostly with cars, he said. During peak hours, especially between 5 pm and 8 pm, it is utter choas when vehicles exit from the complex and road is already packed with regular traffic.
Since, Ejipura junction has been dug up for elevated corridor, the traffic on the Intermediate Ring Road is spilling on to the Koramangala 80 Feet Road, said Vikram T., another motorist. As per the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act, it is mandatory on part of BWSSB, Bescom, BSNL and other civic agencies to restore dug up roads to ensure smooth traffic movement. Obtaining permission is a must for all the agencies before digging the road. This clearly shows there is no co-ordination, Vikram said. When DC contacted BBMP engineers they were unaware as to who the road was dug up. However, they assured to fix the same to ensure smooth traffic flow.
