Chennai: Illegal hookah bar busted, 4 held
Chennai: The Guindy police busted yet another illegal hookah bar in the city on Wednesday night and arrested four persons.
The arrested persons were identified as V. Mohith (25) of Nanganallur, R. Bajan Lal (23), M. Sandeep Kumar (32) and another S. Bajan Lal (32), all residents of Sowcarpet.
According to the police, a surprise raid was conducted at a restaurant opposite Phoenix Mall in Indira Gandhi Nagar in Velachery.
“The raid was conducted based on a secret information. During the raid, the police had found hookah pipes and tobacco products the restaurant,” the sources said.
The police said that as many as 15 hookah pipes were seized from the restaurant. The arrested persons were working partners of the illegal hookah bar while the owner is at large. Bajan Lal had allegedly been running a similar hookah bar in the city but closed it on the fear of police action recently. Following the closure of his bar, Bajan Lal is said to have presented the hookah pipes to his friends who were caught on Wednesday and worked in the bar, the sources said.
Guindy police also sealed the restaurant. A case has been filed and a further investigation is on. The police also launched a search to nab the owner.
Meanwhile, Sholavaram police had seized 2 tons of gutkha worth '5 lakh from a house and arrested Murugan (29) and Sankar (35).
