6 in top 10 to skip engg counselling

Chennai: Among top 10 rank holders in the engineering rank list, six students are not going to attend engineering counselling as three of them already joined in other courses and three students likely to get MBBS seats based on their Neet marks.

Of 1,59,631 engineering applicants, 49,781 did not attend the certificate verification. After the verification, TNEA rejected 5,397 applications and only 1,04,453 candidates alone were found eligible.

This year 10 candidates scored got 200 out of 200 cut-off marks. Among the top 10 candidates, only five are likely to join engineering courses through online counselling this year.

Keerthana Ravi, a student from Palakkad in Kerala, has topped the list with 200 out of 200 cut-off marks.

“I have passed out last year from Kerala state board. Currently, studying B.Sc., Chemistry (honours) at St.Stephen's College in Delhi. This year I applied for engineering counselling due to food and health issues,” Keerthana told this paper.

“But, I am yet to decide about participating in the engineering counselling,” she said. She wants to become an IAS officer. Her father A.S. Ravi is working as an engineering in Switzerland and mother Balambika is B.Ed. training college principal.

S.Ritvik from Madurai got the second rank and he got 1,188 out of 1,200 marks in plus-2 last year. He scored 421 out of 720 marks in Neet and likely to join MBBS course this year.

He took one year coaching for Neet. He will not take part in the engineering counselling.

R.Srivarshini, the third rank holder, is a native of Tiruchy and has passed out from Kerala state board. “She got 368 marks in Neet and she prefers to join MBBS,” Savithri her mother said. Her father Ravi Prasad is a veterinary doctor at Thalaserry.

Arjun Ashok from Coimbatore has already joined in integrated M.Sc. (software systems) course at PSG Tech. "It is my preferred course and I will not attend the engineering counselling," said the fourth rank holder.

R.Sujitha, fifth rank holder, said she would join ECE in Anna University. She got 1,183 out of 1,200 in her plus-2 exams.

The sixth rank holder Abdul Khadar has scored 1,183 marks in plus-2 and got 483 in Neet. He is likely to get MBBS seat and said he would not attend the engineering counselling.

Other toppers in the list S.Yamuna Sri, NA Nisha and A.A. Manigandan all are likely to choose ECE or Computer Science Engineering in Anna University.

S.Nithishkumar, ninth rank holder in the engineering rank list, has already joined engineering physics course in IIT Bombay. So, he will not participate in the engineering counselling.
