Telangana furniture makers demand rollback
Association president Satish Batcha said that the higher GST would lead to small-scale furniture industries shutting down.

Along with the revision in the slabs for room tariffs, the tax rate for air-conditioned restaurants including restaurants in 5 star hotels will have GST at 18 per cent, effective July 1, 2017.
Hyderabad: The All Telangana Furniture Manufacturers and Dealers Association on Wednesday said that its members would resort to protests if the Centre did not roll back its decision to impose 28 per cent of GST in place of the existing 14.5 per cent VAT.
Association president Satish Batcha said that the higher GST would lead to small-scale furniture industries shutting down. “We observed a 72-hour bandh from June 26 and took out a rally. While the Centre is promoting ‘Make in India’, how can it increase tax on essential furniture like chairs and tables being manufactured in the country,” he said.
