Kochi: The city corporation which has failed to find an effective solution to the mosquito menace has introduced a new larvicide to test its effectiveness. The use of the larvicide was inaugurated by Mayor Soumini Jain at Kammattipadam on Wednesday. According to the civic authorities, the chemical was found to be effective in controlling mosquito larvae when used in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram corporation areas.
“Based on the encouraging response from the public in other cities, the corporation has decided to experiment with the new larvicide named ‘Bacto Power’ which will be sprayed in all divisions. The company which is supplying it will provide the workers also for spraying,” said Ms. Jain. The civic body, which has been spending huge amounts for mosquito eradication for several years, might be able to find an effective solution through the new chemical, added the mayor. Deputy mayor T.J. Vinod, standing committee chairpersons V.K. Minimol, Gracy Joseph, Poornima Narayan, Shiny Mathew, A.B. Sabu, P.M. Haris, K.V.P. Krishna Kumar, CPM councillor K.J. Antony and the officials were present.
