GST on textiles: Shops in Telangana have to get computers too

Mr D. Shankar, a textile trader from Suryapet, said most textile shops and outlets in the state do not have computers.

Hyderabad: The GST on textiles is not the only cause for concern for the trade. The use of information technology is another.

Mr D. Shankar, a textile trader from Suryapet, said most textile shops and outlets in the state do not have computers. “Most traders have a poor education background and have no skills at operating a computer,” he said.

The GST needs computer-based taxation application and traders should upload details of sales of stock and goods. Traders should procure computers and hire an operator for taxations and uploads. “It will lead to a burden of at least Rs 10,000 per month,” he said.

Mr Ammanabolu Prakash, president of the Telangana State Federation of Textile Association, said that the association conducted a survey that revealed that only 11 per cent of cloth merchants had computers and could use them.
