GPS-based ticketing mooted for KSRTC

Apart from issuing ticket, the app could track the movement of buses and even help public track live position of buses.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) has proposed a Global Positioning System-based ticketing application for KSRTC. Apart from issuing ticket, the Androind-based application could track the movement of buses and even help public track live position of buses. Features like reserving seats could be also included in the system.

C-DIT proposed the application as KSRTC has been looking to GPS-enabled applications. C-DIT's electronic ticketing machine was tested at a bus running in Thampanoor - Ponmudi stretch on Monday. According to sources, information boards could be installed in buses as part of the project displaying schedule and location information. Advertisements could be also given in the display board and thereby KSRTC could generate revenue.

With the GPS-based ticketing machine, KSRTC would be able to monitor bus movements from a centralised control room. Details of tickets sold could be also monitored on a live basis from the control room. Public can get live information of bus schedules using a mobile app. C-DIT has proposed a revenue sharing model tie up with KSRTC on the project.
