Beedi maker comes under I-T scanner

The raids were being carried out across the state, including at its headquarters in Tirunelveli district.

Chennai: Around 200 investigators from the Income-Tax department conducted raids at 40 premises belonging to Seyadu Beedi Company in Tamil Nadu for suspected tax evasion.

Officials of the I-T department said that raids at the premises of a leading beedi manufacturer began at 7 am at the office, business and residential premises belonging to the executives and associates of Seyadu Beedi Company.

The raids were being carried out across the state, including at its headquarters in Tirunelveli district, where the business began several years ago, and at its premises in Madurai and Chennai.

Raids were also being conducted at the office and residential premises of the family members of the company in these places in the presence of armed Central paramilitary forces. Sources said incriminating documents were seized during the raids.
