P Pulla Rao: 12 Rythu Bazaars, 200 mobile markets to come up

Minister also promises the setting up of an agriculture college in Visakhapatnam district.

Visakhapatnam: The state government would set up 12 new Rythu Bazaars and 200 mobile Rythu Bazaars across the state, said agriculture minister P. Pulla Rao.

On Tuesday, Mr. Rao inaugurated the newly-constructed fruit ripening chamber as well as a cold storage at MVP Rythu Bazaar in Visakhapatnam.

Mr. Rao also held a review meeting with the officials about the primary agriculture sector at the collectorate.

Later, Mr. Rao headed to Anandapuram along with HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao to issue loan waiver certificates to the beneficiaries. Mr. Pulla Rao promised to establish an agriculture college in Visakhapatnam district.

Mr. Rao said they would launch more Rythu Bazaars in crowded areas to meet the demand.

“To provide chemical-free fruits to the public, we are going to set up cold storages and ripening chambers in 36 Rythu Bazaars across the state with an estimated cost of Rs 13 crore. If vendors at Rythu Bazaars are found selling huge amounts of vegetables to hoteliers, their licences will be cancelled. We are also planning to launch 200 mobile Rythu Bazaars in the state. Officials are in the process of streamlining every Rythu Bazaar,” added Mr. Rao.

Vizag East MLA V. Ramakrishna Babu said mobile Rythu Bazaars were allocated to Visakhapatnam East constituency due to higher density of population.
