VIJAYAWADA: NTR district collector Dr. S. Dilli Rao has ordered Vijayawada Municipal Corporation to take up cleaning of Bandar, Ryves and Eluru canals passing through the city.
The collector inspected and found that the Ryves canal had stopped flowing on Sunday due to accumulation of mud at the Kotha Vantena Centre.
He directed municipal officials to remove the mud and waste materials, which are obstructing the water flow in Ryves. At the same time, he ordered that the Bandar and Eluru canals should also be cleaned.
Dilli Rao underlined that it is essential to clean canals regularly, as the stagnant water could cause infections and contagious diseases.
The collector wanted the banks of the canals also cleaned, apart from the parks that have been set up adjacent to the canals in some areas.
