Telangana government to keep special vigil on retail outlets: S K Joshi

He said that the TS government would take up awareness programmes to prevent food adulteration.

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Dr S.K. Joshi on Tuesday said that the state government was taking steps to create awareness among food business operators to follow food safety standards.

He was speaking at a meeting with Ms Rita Teaotia chairperson of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and officers of the medical and health department. He instructed the medical and health officials to prepare an action plan in this regard.

He said that the government, to maintain safety standards, will keep a special vigil on retail outlets selling milk, home-made food and street food, apart from restaurants. He said that the TS government would take up awareness programmes to prevent food adulteration.

The FSSAI chairperson said that the Centre had been reviewing with programmes taken up by the state governments on food safety standards and active utilisation of information technology in preventing food adulteration and maintaining of safety standards.
