Nepali gets lifer for killing Gorkha colleague in Tiruchy

Judge B. Karthikeyan in his order today awarded life sentence to Deepak Bahadur and also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on the accused.

Tiruchy: A lower court here on Tuesday awarded life sentence to a Nepali youth for murdering another Nepali about two years back.

According to the prosecution, the accused Deepak Bahadur (30) and his colleague Umar Singh (36) of Nepal were staying here and engaged as 'Gorkhas' at Beemanagar area in the city.

Unfortunately, on the night of October 16, 2017, both of them were in an inebriated condition and had a wordy quarrel over sharing the "Deepavali Collection" amount, when Deepak Bahadur fatally attacked Umar Singh with a sickle. Sessions court police arrested Deepak Bahadur and filed a murder case against him before the first additional district and sessions court.

Judge B. Karthikeyan in his order today awarded life sentence to Deepak Bahadur and also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on the accused. The judge said if the accused failed to remit the fine amount he should undergo three months more imprisonment.
