Chennai: Amid the raging debate over Rahul Gandhi insisting on quitting as the Congress president owning moral responsibility for his party's poll debacle, his close ally and DMK president M K Stalin on Tuesday spoke to him over phone and made a strong plea he should not step down.
Taking to twitter, Stalin said he had told Rahul that though his party had suffered defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, "you have won the hearts of the people".
The DMK chief also tweeted that Rahul and his mother Sonia Gandhi have congratulated him for the resounding victory of the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu-the DMK and allies won 37 of the 38 seats contested, while the Vellore election was cancelled by the Election Commission citing abuse of money power and IT raids.
In yet another tweet, Stalin said he had accepted the invitation from the YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy to attend his swearing-in as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday (May 30). The DMK will be represented by party seniors T R Baalu and A Raja at the swearing-in of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister for the second term on the same day at Delhi.
