Man gets 10 years for harassing girl in Karur

If he failed to remit the fine, he should undergo three months more imprisonment, the court said.

Karur: Karur district fast track Mahila court here on Monday has convicted and sentenced a 60-year-old weaver to undergo ten years imprisonment in a sexual harassment case.

According to the prosecution, the accused Sundaram of Thanneerpalli village near Kulithalai in Karur district, had sexually harassed a 7-year-old girl of the same locality on October 15 last year.

Based on a complaint, Kulithalai police arrested him under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and filed a case against him, the porceedings of which was on before the Mahila court.

Judge of the Mahila court Hon Ms. Sasikala convicted and sentenced the accused to undergo ten years imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on the accused. If he failed to remit the fine, he should undergo three months more imprisonment, the court said.

The judge also directed the authorities to pay Rs 25,000 as compensation to the poor victim without any delay.
