Kochi: District administration intensifies pre-monsoon drive

The panchayats concerned will be responsible for cleaning canals and water bodies.

Kochi: As the monsoon is expected to hit the state by June 6, the Ernakulam district administration has decided to step up pre-monsoon cleaning and infectious disease prevention drive. During a meeting convened at the collectorate, deputy collectors have been entrusted with the responsibility of cleaning in each taluk. Departments like minor irrigation, Suchitwa Mission, Haritha Keralam, panchayat deputy director and Poverty Alleviation Unit have been entrus-ted with water conservation and cleaning of ponds, wells and other water sources.

The meeting also discussed other measures whi-ch have to be taken like cutting of dangerously hanging tree branches and trees, prevention of coastal erosion, erecting warning signboards in beaches and river banks, safety of school and hospital buildings. Safety of hoardings will also be ensured. The panchayats concerned will be responsible for cleaning canals and water bodies. The meeting was presided by assistant collector M. S Madhavik-utty and officials of various departments attended.
