Hyderabad: The homeless people dwelling in urban areas are being enumerated by local bodies, and a report of the same has to be presented to the government by June 10, according to principal secretary of Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar.
Mr Kumar said, “The survey is being conducted to ensure that basic facilities like healthcare and shelter are provided to the homeless. We also aspire to provide them with Aadhaar cards, pension, and assistance in opening bank accounts so as to facilitate the direct transfer of benefits to them.”
A total of 11,389 homeless individuals were identified in 143 local urban bodies in the state. Of these, 5,000 have been provided with Aadhaar cards, 787 with voter ID, 1,555 have been enabled to receive pensions, while the others have been provided with ration cards. In addition to the above, 136 residents have availed legal advisors, while 201 shelter residents have enrolled in insurance schemes. 694 residents have been referred to Anganwadi centres, and 5,728 residents are being provided with free food by shelters.
1,050 health camps have been conducted so far, and 129 patients have been referred to hospitals for surgeries. Further, according to the review carried out by the officials present in a meeting held yesterday, 1,541 residents have opened bank accounts.
