Hyderabad: KA Paul accused of cheating woman

Satyavathi Katragadda said she came in contact with Paul on April 22 in connection with the visit visa to the US.

Hyderabad: A woman has filed a police complaint against Praja Shanthi Party president K.A. Paul alleging that he had cheated her of money.

The complainant, Ms Satyavathi Katragadda, 54, stated that she was misguided while applying for a visit visa to the US and Paul had demanded Rs 15 lakh from her.

She said she came in contact with Paul on April 22 in connection with the visit visa to the US. On his advise, she met his associate Jyothi and Vijay at his office-cum-house at Lal Bangla Road in Ameerpet.

She alleged that Paul portrayed himself as a very powerful person in the US and said that his sponsorship letters to the US Embassy would fetch a US visit visa. For that he demanded Rs 15 lakh, she alleged.

“After negotiations, I was initially asked to pay Rs 2 lakh immediately,” Ms Katragadda alleged. She handed over a cheque for Rs 2 lakh.

Ms Katragadda said she received a call from Paul on May 23 during which he demanded an additional sum of Rs 15 lakh for forwarding her papers for the visa. “To my shock, he abruptly disconnected the phone call. I tried to contact his associates only to learn that I was blocked by her.”
