Chennai: Stressed out woman head constable ends life

Aruna was mentally depressed due to family issues and she had been undergoing treatment at the Kilpauk hospital for mentally challenged.

Chennai: A woman head constable who attempted suicide due to mental stress at TP Chatram police quarters on Monday night passed away on Tuesday morning at Kilpauk hospital.

According to police, Aruna (44) was a head constable attached to the All Women Police Station, Kilpauk. Sources said she lived at TP Chatram Police Quarters with her husband Jayachandran who works with a private company. The couple has two children – a daughter aged 21 and a son aged 15.

Aruna was mentally depressed due to family issues and she had been undergoing treatment at the Kilpauk hospital for mentally challenged.

She was worried about her mother who has a kidney ailment as doctors gave her a month to live.

A year ago her brother committed suicide by jumping from a train, said a police officer.

Meanwhile, on Monday night Aruna was found hanging in one of the rooms in their house and was rushed to Government Kilpauk Hospital for treatment. However, she passed away in the early hours of Tuesday. Kilpauk police registered a case and furthur investigations are on.
