Hyderabad: A group of armed robbers in Istanbul, Turkey, reportedly shot dead the son of TS labour department principal secretary Shashank Goel. Shubham Goel, a software engineer working in the USA, was holidaying in Istanbul with a friend, Sudhanshu.
Sources said they were confronted by a group of armed robbers who demanded money. Sudhanshu reportedly handed over the money he had on him while Shubham refused to do so. According to sources, the assailants first attacked Shubham with sticks and a knife and later shot him dead.
Shubham was in India to attend a relative’s wedding on April 28 and was scheduled to return to California, USA, where he was working as deputy manager at the Federal Bank of America. Shubham and Sudhanshu, from Noida, made plans for a quick holiday in Turkey before returning to the US.
Shubham’s body was brought to New Delhi on Saturday and then taken to the family home in Roorkee, Uttarakhand for the final rites. Mr Goel is learnt to have left the city for Delhi as soon as he received information about the incident. He was assisted by officials of the external affairs ministry for the return of his son’s body, sources said.
