Throw open Trimulgherry gate before schools reopen: Residents
Hyderabad: With schools set to begin four days for the new academic year, residents staged a protest at Tirumlgherry Gate on Monday seeking the reopening of roads so as to avoid hardships for their school-going children. Some of the protesters were arrested on grounds of security.
Mr N. Ravinder, a parent, said, “I had to travel a long distance to drop my children to school and pick them up last year. After the ministry of defence orders came to reopen all the roads, I thought this hardship of commuting the extra distance and our children going to school late because of heavy traffic will decrease, but nothing has happened.”
One of the protesters, Mr Michael Abrahim, said, “We staged the protest so that the roads will be opened and children can go to school, but none of the officials turned up and discussed the matter with us.”
He said that when the ministry of defence order was received, parents were overjoyed at the prospect of the roads being reopened but it bore no result.
Many people attended the protest seeking the opening of the road. Though it was a peaceful protest, some of the protesters were arrested and the police said it was being done due to security requirements.
Among those arrested by the police were Congress elader Krishank Manne, Mr P. Shyam Kumar and Mr G. Nagesh.
