Soldiers without ID cards harass people, say Yapral residents

Residents are also irritated as they are being asked for licences, helmets and ID cards by jawans.

Hyderabad: Local residents are very annoyed that the military authorities are neither re-opening all the closed roads nor coming out with a clear stand following orders issued by the Ministry of Defence.

DC columnist Mohan Guruswamy of Yapral, said the jawans checking vehicles at Valerian crossing did not carry name tags or identity cards. “This does not give us a chance to complain to the higher authorities,” he said.

Residents are also irritated as they are being asked for licences, helmets and ID cards by jawans.

Mr S. Anoop Kumar said, “The Army is known to follow orders without question. This disregard and disobedience of the orders issued by the defence ministry is shocking and disturbing too.”

“Ninety per cent of armed forces families have been staying in civilian colonies safely for years. Please don’t hate civilians so much that you are frustrated with the decision and start abusing our defence ministry, said Mr C.S. Chandrashekar, member of the Federation of Northeast Colonies.

The Defence Ministry released the order to open the roads to civilians on May 20. The Local Military Authority has acknowledged that it has received the order and started implementation. But all the roads have not yet been opened.
